The Beginning

It all happened on one fine day that Mrs. Paulrani, a medical professional came across with a transgender who was sharing about her life story and how she ended up in this tragic lifestyle. In their conversation, the person expressed her longing to be accepted by her family and that the society would stop discriminating people like her and recognize them as humans too.

Moved by this persons story, Paulrani went back home and pondered over the person's story and prayed for her. But her heart kept nudging her to do something for such socially deprived people. After much prayer and waiting upon the Lord, the Lord led the entire family to be committed for the upliftment of this community in the city of Bangalore by which ever means the Lord enables them and above all share the impartial love of Jesus Christ. Thus, in the year 2011, the Lord in his own peculiar way led them to actively participate in sharing the love of Jesus Christ to the transgender in the city of Bangalore.

For the past two years, they, as a family and along with few of their well-wishers and volunteers were able to progressively run this ministry. Initially it was very challenging to visit this group of people and learn their lifestyle. It is heart breaking to see each day their way of life without any aim in life. They are been highly ostracized by the society, they have no quick access for medical assistance, no employment opportunities for those who are willing and no access to education too. They are highly exploited in every areas of their lives be it physical, emotional and sexual. Once their trade is over, they are overtly religious and believe in all kind of superstitions. It is high time that we as a society must realize that such people are also humans and deserve to live with dignity as humans and not as animals in this society. In the past many mission organizations came forward to work among this community however, observing their lifestyle they withdrew themselves from working among this community. As a result, this community is very apprehensive about having any kind of assistance from any such organizations and therefore, refuses any kind of rehabilitation. Transgender are very comfortable with their profession and don't want to give up their work such as dancing, begging and sex trade. Mainly they have close link with elder transgender, other leader who used to control the entire transgender groups. Without the leader's knowledge, transgender can't take any decision on their own including education, shelter, taking jobs, training, including their personal issues.

For the past one year, the family have prayerfully planned and conducted house visiting, one day retreat, medical camp, Christmas program, training programs like home schooling and tailoring. Though the results are not yet satisfactory, they are committed to continue with the programs in a manner which is friendly, flexible and eventually fruitful. They function under the registered name DEAR. They have plans to create awareness among the churches in and around the city of Bangalore about the inclusiveness of the transgender in the Kingdom of God.
